Suggestions to help prevent deer-car collisions:

• Be attentive from sunset to midnight and shortly before and after sunrise. These are high risk times.
• Drive with caution in deer-crossing areas. Deer seldom run alone. If you see one deer, there are probably more nearby.
• When there is no oncoming traffic at night, drive with your high beams on. The high beam lights will help you see the eyes of the deer on the roadway.
• When you see a deer on or near the roadway, slow down and blow your horn with one long blast to frighten the deer away.
• Slow down and stay in your lane when you see a deer in or near your path. If you fail to stay in your lane you could lose control of your vehicle or hit another vehicle.
• Always wear your seat belt. Many people that are injured in a car or deer crash are injured due to not wearing their seat belt.

• Devices used to deter deer such as deer whistles, deer fences, and deer reflectors, have not been proven to reduce deer-car collisions; therefore you should not rely on such devices.
